The Custom Process

- What was the style or vision for your wedding? We had a big wedding - bigger than we wanted (anyone who goes through wedding planning, you know how this happens...). It was still really important for us to keep the wedding casual and fun - and I wanted an outfit to match.

- Why did you decide on creating a custom gown with Varca? I knew that I did not want to wear a gown - I really wanted to wear a jumpsuit. I came across Sarah through emailing wedding boutiques in Chicago. One of the boutiques said they did not carry jumpsuits, but they recommended Sarah who had created custom jumpsuits in the past. I was having a hard time finding a jumpsuit that I loved, so when I met Sarah and learned I could create my dream jumpsuit with her, it was the easiest wedding decision! Bonus: she has a very cute apartment, she's incredibly talented, fun to work with, and has chocolates and fruit for each fitting.

- How did the design develop and transform from your original vision as you and Sarah worked together? At first, I wanted something fairly simple. I wanted a jumpsuit with a removable skirt with no train and no body. This changed a bit throughout the process. It started with the lace design we picked. I loved lace designs that looked like Moroccan tile patterns, and Sarah helped me pick a beautiful patterned lace, that was very Moroccan tile-like, but also grander than I envisioned. It was beautiful -- so beautiful that she quietly made the skirt a bit grander than I originally proposed. The pattern was too cool to not highlight. I LOVED this change, even with the train. The other major change we made happened halfway through the process when I decided to change the neckline of the jumpsuit a bit. Sarah was on board and so flexible with making the change. The end product couldn't have been more perfect for me and what I was looking for on the wedding day.

- Anything else you would like to add about your experience? Designing my jumpsuit with Sarah was easy and fun -- and it made the wedding process, and actual wedding, more memorable. I got so many compliments from guests and people who saw pictures afterward.
